What to plant after radishes
The short answer
After radishes in May the season is wide open: beans, beetroot, carrots, courgettes, squash, sweetcorn, lettuce and more. In August: salads, spinach, chard, winter lettuce, overwintering onions or a green manure.
Keep cabbages, kale, turnips, swede, rocket, pak choi and more radishes out of this bed.
Radishes are ready in a few weeks, so the space is free again almost at once. The catch is the family: a radish is a brassica.
Radishes cleared in May
What Vercro's catalogue has in its sowing window when the bed clears in mid May, checked against radishes with the same code as the Vercro app. No frost date is applied here; “ready about” counts the catalogue's growing time from mid May.

Why the family matters
Radish is in the cabbage family (Brassicaceae), with cabbage, kale, sprouts, turnips, swede, rocket, pak choi and mustard. The RHS lists radishes, turnips and swedes among the crops clubroot affects, and says its resting spores can contaminate soil for up to 20 years.
That is why Vercro marks every brassica to wait here, even ones that look nothing like a radish.
Worth knowing about radishes beds
Rocket and mustard are brassicas
So is mustard grown as a green manure (RHS). They wait too.Radishes between brassicas
Sowing radishes as a gap-filler in the brassica bed keeps the family together, which is tidy for rotation.Rotation slows clubroot; it doesn’t cure it
Once clubroot is in a bed, it can last for decades. See brassica rotation.Quick in, quick out
Radishes suit the spaces other crops leave for a few weeks.

How Vercro handles this in a real garden
Vercro knows a radish is a brassica, even though the catalogue files it with roots. When the bed clears, the rotation check marks every cabbage-family crop to go elsewhere.
What this page can't tell you
The honest limits
Sowing months are a national calendar, not your garden's. We can't see your soil, how much room is left, or what else is still growing in the bed. The rotation check looks only at radishes; your bed's earlier history matters too.

Where this comes from
Crop windows, growing times and plant families come from Vercro's own curated crop catalogue, the same data the Vercro app uses. Where a published source says something different, we show both rather than choosing the convenient one. Reviewed 19 September 2026.

Let each empty bed tell you what could go in
In the Vercro Garden plan, a bed that has come free shows what could go there next, using your location's frost date and what that bed has grown before.
