Vercro

Our mission

We want everyone to feel they can grow their own food and succeed at it

Growing food shouldn’t be something reserved for experienced gardeners, people with large gardens or people who already know what they’re doing.

With household budgets under pressure, and many of us feeling more and more disconnected from the food we eat, we believe growing even a small amount yourself can make a difference.

Why Vercro exists

Knowing what to do, and keeping going

There’s already a huge amount of information explaining how to garden. The harder part is knowing what to do, when to do it, and keeping going when life gets in the way.

That’s what Vercro is here for. We help people turn good intentions into successful growing, keeping track of what’s planted, what needs doing next, what worked, what didn’t and everything they’ve achieved along the way.

Vercro Today screen for a demo garden on Tuesday 15 September: good morning, 14°C and cloudy, slugs and snails are the thing to watch tonight. A Tonight job to check for slugs and snails, best at dusk, with a Why today? link; the back garden and the allotment are each marked Looked, all clear in turn, and the morning summary changes to there's plenty ready to pick.

More than the harvest

Gardening isn’t just about the harvest

It’s about

  • Getting outside.
  • Learning.
  • Experimenting.
  • Spending time together.
  • Watching something grow because you looked after it.

And having a record of those seasons, and what you achieved in them, to look back on with pride.

Season after season

A record of your growing life

Vercro starts with today’s jobs. Everything you tick, pick and write down stays in your Record, bed by bed, and it doesn’t reset in January. Over the years it becomes the story of your garden:

  • What you planted
  • What you harvested
  • What worked
  • What didn’t
  • How the garden changed
  • What you learned
  • What you grew with your children
  • What you’re proud of

So next spring you’ll have more than a feeling about what to grow again.

Pass it on

The next generation

We especially want to help the next generation experience all of that.

Children who grow food learn where it comes from, what it takes to produce it, and that they can make something for themselves rather than simply buying it from a shelf.

Our ambition is simple

Help more people grow food successfully, keep them growing for longer and give the next generation the knowledge and confidence to grow too.
