What can follow broad bean?

Tell it what just finished in a bed and when. It checks every crop against that by botanical family, and tells you what should wait, what follows well, and what it can't judge.

After broad bean, finished September 2026

Broad Bean is in the pea and bean family (Fabaceae). Growing the same family here again soon matters because pea and bean root rots build up where they are grown repeatedly.

We can't judge these (4)

Vercro doesn't hold a single botanical family for them (a mixed packet of salad leaves can hold three families), so it won't say whether they're fine.

What this knows, and what it doesn't

  • By family, not by category. Radish, rocket and turnip are all in the cabbage family, even though they don't look like cabbages. Vercro keeps its own curated list of botanical families.
  • It only warns when there's a reason. “Best to wait” appears only for families with a documented problem that builds up in soil (clubroot, eelworm, white rot, root rots, carrot root fly), and only within about a year. Potato blight mostly arrives on the wind and carries over in leftover tubers, rather than building up in soil (RHS).
  • No three-year chart. The traditional rotation rules are stated with more certainty than the evidence supports, so this tool doesn't draw one. It checks the last crop only.
  • It isn't a disease test. A family warning means the risk is higher, not that your soil has a problem. If clubroot or white rot is already in a bed, it can last far longer.
  • “When it finished” is taken as the middle of that month. It doesn't check sowing timing: use What can I sow now? for that.
